Samba Sow has urged his Nottingham Forest teammates to “wake up” following their 2-0 defeat to Reading at the weekend.
Forest fell to their fourth defeat in their last five games, after losing 2-0 to Reading at the Madejski Stadium thanks to goals from Lucas Joao and Michael Morrison.
The result leaves Forest sitting 21st in the Championship table, only two points clear of the relegation zone and four points off bottom.
Perhaps more worryingly for Forest, it’s now five games without a goal for the Reds, with very little quality on show in either box.
Speaking to the press after the game, Samba Sow, who replaced Harry Arter on the hour mark, reacted to his side’s performance against the Royals.
Sow urged his teammates to “wake up”, saying: “It was a difficult afternoon, we lost again and it was difficult with only 10 men. Now we just need to look forward, to keep working harder because it is a difficult time. We need to wake up as soon as possible.
“We are professional players and we know that in football, anything can happen. If you keep working, if you keep believing, then I am sure that we have enough quality in this squad to get some points. That is why everyone needs to do that, to work harder and think about the next game.
“Nobody could have seen us in the position at the start of the season, but we are in this position, it is the reality, and now we have to be more focused on never giving up and looking forward. It is important for us, for the fans and for the club that we do everything to get the victory as soon as possible.”
It doesn’t get any easier, either, with the Reds taking on league leaders Norwich City at Carrow Road in midweek, before a home clash with Brentford next weekend.
The Verdict
Sow is spot on. He and his teammates need to start taking responsibility for their performances, as it is simply not good enough at the moment.
Brice Samba was at fault for the goal yesterday, and he never normally is, which shows how much confidence the group is lacking at the moment.
With tough games against Norwich and Brentford coming up, Forest could well be in the relegation zone this time next week.
