Sammer slams "physically and mentally out of shape" Dortmund after Bologna defeat

After losing their first three Bundesliga games of 2025, Borussia Dortmund's crisis deepened on Tuesday as they lost 2-1 to Bologna in the Champions League after leading 1-0.

Speaking after the match, Borussia Dortmund advisor Matthias Sammer was unsparing in his criticism of the performance.

"If we take an analytical approach, this team is physically and mentally out of shape," Sammer told Prime Video.

“If you look at their performance today, you'd think the foundations weren't there. Unfortunately, the team can't defend, but they can't attack either. There's no clear structure in the team,” he added.

The defeat puts further pressure on head coach Nuri Sahin, who is clinging on to his job.
