Samsunspor v Göztepe: upper-half clash with European push in sight

Samsunspor host Göztepe in the Süper Lig on 16 May 2026 at Samsun Yeni 19 Mayıs Stadyumu, with fifth meeting seventh and upper-half positioning at stake.

Göztepe won the reverse fixture 2-0 in December, but the margins have been tight in recent meetings, including a 4-3 for Samsunspor in 2024 and a 2-2 draw in 2025.

Form points both ways. Samsunspor have won three of their last four league games before a 3-0 defeat at Başakşehir, while Göztepe are unbeaten in five league outings with two wins and three draws, including a point at Trabzonspor and a home win over Gaziantep.

Team news tilts selection. Samsunspor are without Emre Kilinc, Olivier Ntcham, Celil Yuksel, J Assoumou and Bedirhan Çetin through injury, and Joe Mendes is suspended. Göztepe list no absentees.

Styles contrast. Samsunspor average 54% possession with 83.42% passing accuracy and supply a high volume of open-play crosses, so Marius Mouandilmadji, with nine league goals, and Carlo Holse, with eight, could be central. Göztepe play with 38% possession, but their defence is a strength: 16 clean sheets and only 29 conceded. Juan leads their scoring on 11, with Amin Cherni and Efkan Bekiroglu among the creators.

A home win would move Samsunspor to 51 points and keep them in the hunt for a higher finish. An away victory would take Göztepe to 58 points, strengthen their grip on fifth and maintain pressure on the top four.
