Samu has begun controlled ball work as he continues rehabilitation from a serious knee injury, a step forward but his return is not imminent.

According to O Jogo, the Spanish forward started his first ball exercises on Saturday, working away from the main group as planned.

He is recovering from a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and has followed the programme closely since surgery on his right knee in February.

The session involved individual drills with a physiotherapist, simple and tightly managed to match this stage of recovery.

Even at this level, the work is seen as a positive psychological boost for the player.

The wait for a full return should run into early November.
