Samuel Eto’o backs Barcelona star to win Ballon d’Or with heartfelt message | OneFootball

Despite still being only 19 years of age, the FC Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has already made his place among the very best players in European football today. The forward has already won both the UEFA EURO and the World Cup with the Spanish national team, and all the big domestic trophies with the Blaugrana team.

Following his La Liga and Spanish Super Cup triumphs with the Catalan side and the World Cup win with Spain this year, he is one of the leading contenders to win the Ballon d’Or. Although some other candidates also had very good last seasons, several of his teammates and other notable voices in European football have backed the Spaniard to win the award this year.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, one such notable individual to become the latest backer of Yamal to win the Ballon d’Or was the former Barcelona forward Samuel Eto’o. The Cameroonian took to his social media to publish the following message:

“Ballon d’Or of our hearts.

Genius, fearless, talented…

Best of luck in this race for the Ballon d’Or. But whatever the verdict, one thing is already certain: just like Ousmane, you are already the Ballon d’Or of our hearts.

Keep making us dream.”

Eto’o tagged Yamal, FC Barcelona, and Deco in this post, and the Blaugrana sporting director also responded to this post with a comment consisting of several clapping and heart-eyed emojis.

Although the Cameroonian himself never won the Ballon d’Or, he was placed fifth in the rankings twice in his playing career, in 2005 and 2009, mainly for his performances for Barcelona.

The next Ballon d’Or is going to be handed out late in October, and it remains to be seen who will win it, with Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappe, and Harry Kane seemingly going to be the top contenders. But for Barcelona fans like Eto’o, there is only one deserving winner.
