MLS debutants San Diego booked their passage to the second-round of the MLS Cup Playoffs with a comfortable win over the Portland Timbers.

It was one-way traffic from the very start as Portland set up with a high-line that San Diego took full advantage of.
It took just five minutes for the hosts to find their opener when Anders Dreyer popped up in a familiar position to fire his shot past James Pantemis and set the tone for the evening.
The plan was clear from there, exploit the back post — and San Diego did just that through Amahl Pellegrino twice more and Dreyer once more to run away with the game before the Timbers find a way back into the affair.
To make matters worse for the visitors, Juan Mosquera lashed out at Chucky Lozano in the dying minutes to see himself sent off and force the Timbers to play a man down as they chased a miracle.
San Diego will move on with ease and take on Minnesota United in the Western Conference semi-finals.
