San Lorenzo have turned down River’s first formal offer for Jhohan Romaña, judging two million dollars for 50 percent of his rights to be insufficient. According to SuperDepor.com, the club has made clear it will not advance the talks on those terms.
The decision was taken by the interim board, with Sergio Costantino at the helm. In Boedo they regard Romaña as a key part of the squad and would only consider a higher figure, preferably a sale of 100 percent of his economic rights.
Including Sebastián Boselli as part of the payment was discussed, but dropped. The Uruguayan defender does not favour a move to San Lorenzo and would prioritise continuing his career abroad if he cannot establish himself at River, and the club are not willing to accept players in the deal.
An internal idea to lift the figure to two point five million dollars for half of his rights also failed to progress, and no agreement was reached on those terms. River are proceeding cautiously and are not prepared to double their initial proposal.
The immediate picture hinges on whether San Lorenzo soften their demands. If nothing changes, River may close negotiations and move for another centre-back in the market. The Boedo club are holding firm, saying they will not sell one of their most valuable players at any price despite a delicate financial context.
