San Siro has a ‘good chance’ of hosting the Champions League Final in 2026 or 2027, confirms UEFA vice-secretary Giorgio Marchetti.

The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan is commonly referred to as San Siro after the area of the city where it is located.

While Inter and Milan have for a decade been trying to get the current structure knocked down and rebuilt, or at least modernised, it remains a venue that represents a great deal to the football world.

“There is a good chance that the 2026 or 2027 Final of the new Champions League tournament will be played in Milan,” UEFA representative Marchetti told La Politica nel Pallone radio show.

“San Siro, albeit not being one of the most modern stadiums, is still an icon of international football, recognised by all lovers of sport, above all football fans.

“Italy has put forward its candidacy to host and we’ll see what happens.”

A decision on the 2026 and 2027 venues for the Champions League Final is expected at the end of May.

San Siro has hosted Final before

San Siro has hosted the tournament showdown before in 1965 and 1970 when it was still the European Cup, then in 2001 and again in 2016.

This season’s Final is at Wembley Stadium in London, while Munich will host in 2025, the first edition with the new expanded format of the competition.
