According to TheArgus.co.uk, Sander van der Eijk will referee Brighton’s Conference League play-off second leg against Tromso at the Amex on Thursday.
Jack Hinshelwood might have happy memories of the referee, who took charge of the 2025 Under-21s Euros final when Hinshelwood and James Beadle helped England beat Brajan Gruda’s Germany 3-2 after extra-time.
Van der Eijk, 35 and from Amstelveen, is in his second season officiating European club matches. He made his Eredivisie debut more than seven years ago.
He was in Scotland two weeks ago for Hearts’ 1-1 draw with Benfica, an assignment Albion chairman Tony Bloom will know well. On Sunday he oversaw Go Ahead Eagles v Den Haag.
At the Amex he will be backed by an all-Dutch crew, with Clay Ruperti on VAR duty.
Albion did not complain publicly after the first leg, though they might have had quiet grumbles about the Latvian officials. A possible foul on Ibrahim Osman in the box went unpunished early on, as did what looked a clear trip on Georginio Rutter and a shirt-pull on Pascal Gross in central areas just outside the box.
