Sandro Tonali’s agent reveals why he joined Tottenham in record transfer | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur shelled out a club record fee to sign Sandro Tonali in the summer. While he hasn’t started the season well, the transfer was a clear indication of the player’s rise in stature since his early days at Brescia and Milan.

His agent – Giuseppe Riso, has now opened up about the decision to join the Lilywhites and how the transfer came about.

Riso told the Colpi Da Maestra podcast and revealed that the courage of the Tottenham project proved enticing.

He said – via Tuttomercatoweb: “Tottenham, after Newcastle, shows that they choose differently, they are courageous. Tottenham was born after the end of the [previous] season.”

Riso also further noted De Zerbi’s role in the transfer, stating he did play a massive part.

“Tottenham had survived and De Zerbi came to their house telling them that they needed him as a leader. The relationship with De Zerbi weighed heavily [for the transfer].”

Tonali has mainly featured as a box-to-box midfielder in the campaign, which suits his skillset quite a bit, instead of how things were at Newcastle United.

He has had inconsistent showings and even if Tottenham haven’t won a league game, their performances are getting better and they are creating enough. It could be a matter of time before the results start to show.
