Leroy Sané hailed Germany's togetherness after scoring the winner in a 2-1 friendly over the United States, following Lennart Karl's injury setback.

Karl withdrew on Friday after a training injury. Sané returned to the starting XI in Chicago on Saturday, stepping in for the Bayern Munich prodigy and securing victory against the co-hosts.

“We get along very well as a team and there is a great sense of excitement for the World Cup, which you can also see in our togetherness on the pitch,” said Sané, speaking to RTL.

“For me, the most important thing is that we function as a team and go into matches together, not individual matters.”

“Of course it hurts when a young player like Lennart Karl misses out on his dream, but we stand together as a team and now want to go on the attack.”

Sané could start again when Germany face Curaçao in their World Cup opener on 14 June.
