Santiago Gimenez has a definitive deadline of two months to revitalize his Milan career, or he risks an early exit from the San Siro, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Mexican forward, who arrived at Milan in January for €28.5 million, has yet to score a goal in Serie A this season. He has played 627 minutes—over ten hours of football—without finding the net, an eternity for a professional center-forward.
The next two months will be critical, as Gimenez has eight, possibly nine, games—including the Italian Super Cup final—before the January transfer window. The club is reportedly looking for a “strong signal” from the player.
While Gimenez is a Milan fan who fought to stay at the club this past summer, the lack of goals and, more recently, the decline in his effort for the team (dubbed “reduced service” to the group) have raised serious concerns. The ultimate question surrounding his future is simple: how can a striker who doesn’t even shoot at goal find the back of the net?
If goals fail to materialize, Gimenez’s time at Milan risks expiring, and the club would reportedly seek a replacement with characteristics more functional to the team’s tactics. However, if he starts scoring, his contract, which runs until the summer of 2029, will be secured.
