Estadio AKRON was the perfect stage for a football artist to leave his mark once again. Santiago Sandoval stepped up with authority and personality to open the scoring for the Rojiblancos against Pumas. But he wasn’t satisfied with that alone: he also recorded his second brace in the top flight and was one of the standout performers in Guadalajara’s rout.
Santi’s performance was no coincidence. The young attacker is enjoying an important moment with the Rebaño and, match after match, continues to prove that he is one of the most promising young talents within Guadalajara, while also becoming one of the most influential players in the team’s system.
A Return That Changed the Picture
His presence has given Guadalajara’s attack a different dimension. Sando has made the most of every opportunity to show that he is ready to compete for a place in Gabriel Milito’s system.
After an impressive stint with the Mexico U-20 National Team at the category’s qualifying tournament, the young Rojiblanco returned to action with Chivas in the Leagues Cup against Seattle Sounders, and he did so with a goal. In Apertura 2026, his return came on Matchday 4 against Santos, where he once again showcased his ability to create danger. Santiago made his way into the box with a brilliant individual play and earned the penalty that gave Chivas the victory.
Sando’s Efficiency in Front of Goal
The numbers back up the moment he is enjoying. Santiago has scored three goals in Apertura 2026, all coming across the 305 minutes he has played. He has also made four starts in his five appearances, averaging one goal every 102 minutes. With these goals, the forward now has nine goals in the top flight since making his debut in Apertura 2025.
Much More Than Goals in Milito’s System
Sando’s contribution goes beyond his goals. His game also stands out for the way he creates danger, his ability to combine with teammates, and the intensity he shows when winning the ball back in the opponent’s half. He also has the awareness to follow plays, find spaces, and remain available as a passing option.
There is another statistic that reflects his impact: when Santi scores, the Rebaño wins by a wide margin. In the two matches in which he has scored in AP26, Guadalajara went on to earn convincing victories. Against Xolos, he set the rout in motion, and against Pumas, he did it again, first opening the scoring and then extending the lead.
Quality and a Signature Style in Front of Goal
His three goals this tournament have each carried their own signature: two precise headers and a powerful strike from outside the box. Different weapons from a footballer who continues to show that he can hurt opponents in a variety of ways when he gets close to goal.
A Talent That Continues to Raise His Hand
All of this confirms Santiago Sandoval’s potential. 'Sando' is making the most of his opportunity, competing, contributing goals, and proving that he can play an increasingly important role for Guadalajara in AP26.
