Santiago Sosa arrived at Rio’s Galeão early on Monday for medicals and to sign for Vasco. The 27-year-old Argentine can play holding midfield or centre-back, has captained Racing and is a Copa Sudamericana champion. He said he was delighted to join.

According to PaponaColina, Vasco aim to complete paperwork for Sosa and forward Facundo Colidio before the 14:00 Monday deadline to register them for Thursday’s Copa Sudamericana last-16 first leg against Olimpia. If continental registration is not finalised in time, he said he is ready to debut on Sunday against Santos at São Januário in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Vasco agreed a fee of about US$ seven million, roughly R$35.5 million, with Racing. Talks had been advancing for more than one week, and he bade farewell to Racing supporters on the first of August.

Racing sought around half of the fee upfront and demanded firm financial guarantees to cover any late instalments, which prolonged negotiations. Vasco resolved the impasse with bank guarantees to seal the deal.

Head coach Pedro Emanuel requested a midfield addition to aid ball-winning and build-up, and Sosa will join training once medicals finish at CT Moacyr Barbosa. Officials are expediting his CBF registration.

He is eager to meet the supporters and experience São Januário soon.
