Santiago Sosa has set out the legacy he wants to leave at Vasco, putting trophies at the top of his agenda. According to PaponaColina, the Argentine, 27, outlined his priorities in an interview.
"First, titles, then a passionate player, who leaves everything on the pitch, helps team-mates, and brings attitude and grit to everything," he said. That blend of drive and leadership has defined him since his days in Argentina.
Sosa also revealed he paused an Accounting degree after joining, choosing to focus on adapting to the club. He does not rule out resuming his studies later.
With the Copa Sudamericana semi-final venue still undecided, he said he would rather face Boca Juniors at São Januário than at the Maracanã. The view reflects his River Plate roots, Boca’s historic rivals.
Comfortable as a defensive midfielder or centre-back, he offers Pedro Emanuel flexibility. Strong in the air and sharp at reading passes, he has earned trust and is a likely starter in midfield for the Botafogo derby on Wednesday, the seventh.
A River Plate academy graduate, Sosa was in the 2018 Libertadores-winning squad, then spent three seasons with Atlanta United. He captained Racing, lifting the 2024 Copa Sudamericana and 2025 Recopa Sudamericana, and helped reach the 2025 Libertadores semi-finals. Vasco announced his signing on 12 August 2026 on a deal to December 2029.
