Santos have agreed a loan for attacking midfielder Bernardo to Amazonas for the Série C campaign. He will travel on Wednesday 18 after extending his contract until December 2027, having previously been due to expire on 30 November.
According to Diario Do Peixe, the 2005-born playmaker has aged out of the academy after his final Copinha, and the club renewed his deal to avoid losing him for nothing.
He endured about a year and six months of muscular issues, starting with a grade two thigh injury late in 2023 that cost him the 2024 Copinha. He returned for the Equality Cup in Qatar and under-20 games, then relapsed after first-team work and Série B registration.
Further setbacks followed around the 2025 Copinha, when he came off the bench against Ferroviária before elimination. In March he logged two Brasileiro under-20 outings, felt discomfort after stepping up with the seniors, then resumed competition in June. The report said contacts close to him blame overload late in rehab.
Head coach Vojvoda said the academy is being closely monitored with César Sampaio and that decisions over Bernardo and others must be prudent. He pointed to options in Bernardo’s role, including Miguel, Rollheiser and Neymar, and emphasised his priority is first-team results.
