Santos have agreed a new three-year deal for defender Marcelo Contreras and are finalising paperwork before it is signed, according to Diario Do Peixe.
The centre-back is in his final Under-20 season, with the renewal requested by the club’s professional football department. He can still feature in the Copinha in January next year, after which he will be overage for youth football.
His previous contract was due to run until 30 June next year. Sharing the same representative as attacking midfielder Miguelito, who recently renewed with the current management, helped make discussions smoother and quicker.
Contreras progressed through Bolivia’s youth sides and, like Miguelito, is now frequently called up by La Verde’s senior squad.
He joined via the Bolivia 2022 Project alongside Miguelito and striker Enzo Monteiro, who is currently on loan in South Korea. He also played in non-official youth tournaments for Santos, including the Paulista Cup and FAM Cup, which do not require federation registration.
He won the Paulista Cup Under-16 in 2022 and the Ibrachina Cup Under-20 last year. Primarily a centre-back, he has also filled in at right-back. He turned 18 in 2024, allowing him to sign a professional contract and become eligible for official competitions.
