Santos said in a statement on Sunday that Elano had been appointed youth football manager.
He leaves Guarani, where he had served as technical coordinator since May last year.
It is a joyous return home for the former midfielder, who arrives focused on helping to shape academy talents with joy, pride, sincerity, transparency and hard work, aiming to bring through more players for the club.
Elano will work alongside fellow former player Rodrigão, the current technical coordinator of the academy. The department is led by director José Renato Quaresma.
Across three playing spells at Santos, he won eight trophies, including the 2002 and 2004 Brazilian league titles and the 2011 Copa Libertadores.
He later returned as Dorival Júnior’s assistant and took interim charge following the 2017 dismissals of Dorival and Levir Culpi.
The club’s hierarchy has increasingly placed former players in strategic academy roles, with Léo and César Sampaio responsible for supporting youngsters stepping up to the first team.
