Santos have started another phase of construction at Vila Belmiro, removing access stairs and lowering a terrace to pitch level, which will eliminate the circulation area behind one goal. The work is slated to finish in 60 days.
According to Globo.com, the club is targeting a Pacaembu-style feel with supporters closer to the action, and the revamped end is projected to host 5,000 people, up from 3,200.
The plan adds new access points in that section and refurbishes the toilets. Further upgrades to the side of the pitch and the fourth floor are scheduled in the coming months.
Earlier, Santos split the steps in the same end that houses the main organised supporter groups, creating extra space for more fans.
The club-wide revamp began with the away section, where 300 seats were removed and the concrete was doubled, with double steps measuring 45 cm lifting capacity to 1,400.
The lateral stand opposite the reserved seats will also change, with seats taken out and the terrace extended nearer the pitch. New boxes and a bar are planned in the Salão de Mármore area, alongside a new shop and a new memorial.
After years of talks with WTorre, negotiations have been halted and there is no timetable to resume. In April, paperwork was ready to sign, but WTorre asked to suspend the signing until its situation with BTG Pactual is resolved.
