Santos have completed maintenance on pitches two and three at CT Rei Pelé, and Cuca’s squad returned this week to train on the refreshed surface.
According to Diario Do Peixe, the club replicated the Vila Belmiro programme, using a winter overseeding process with ryegrass suited to cooler temperatures.
The ryegrass is sown to offset reduced growth of warm-season species in winter, while worn areas were replanted and minor undulations from boot studs corrected to improve surface drainage and ball roll.
Club property manager Alexandre Librandi said the break without first-team sessions was used to maintain and care for facilities, pledging to keep CT Rei Pelé at the required standard, with the same treatment also applied at Vila Belmiro.
Roberto Gomide, founder and CEO of World Sports, which oversees the CT pitches, said elite turf needs planned recovery windows, and the World Cup break allowed key interventions to be brought forward to provide a safe, uniform surface for training, backed by daily monitoring and agronomic planning.
CT Rei Pelé also has a synthetic pitch. In March this year, field one earned FIFA Quality Pro certification, officially joining the select group of surfaces accredited by football’s governing body.
