Santos have confirmed the signing of midfielder Lima from Fluminense on loan until December.

Head coach Cuca plans to use him as a number eight. The player is awaiting registration in the CBF’s BID before he can make his debut. Santos had already explored a move for him in December last year.

Lima said he was delighted to join Santos, arriving highly motivated and mindful of the responsibility of wearing such a historic shirt. He described representing the club as a great source of pride.

He joins Arthur and right-back Rodinei as mid-year additions for the Alvinegro.

Born in Araçatuba, Vinícius Moreira de Lima turned 30 in June. He came through at Tanabi, joined Grêmio in 2013 and was promoted to the first team in 2017.

At Grêmio he was part of squads that won the state championship and the Recopa Sudamericana in 2018. He also had loan spells with Mallorca B in Spain, Ceará and Al-Wasl in the United Arab Emirates.

Ceará later signed him permanently, where he lifted the Copa do Nordeste in 2020 and the Cearense in 2022. Fluminense then acquired him, winning the Carioca and Copa Libertadores in 2023 and the Recopa Sudamericana in 2024.

Earlier this year he joined América, Mexico, on loan, but lost his place and terminated that deal.
