Santos' Deliberative Council has suspended a vote on the club's new statute after changes to SAFs legislation, according to Diario Do Peixe.
At a meeting on Monday night, council president Fernando Akaoui told members he had accepted a suggestion from lawyer Rodrigo Monteiro de Castro. The council will await the progress of Projeto de Lei 2978/23, which revises rules for Sociedades Anônimas do Futebol (SAFs).
The bill has been sanctioned by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva with some vetoes. Congress will now convene to examine those vetoes, which could be upheld or overturned.
Santos believes parts of the new law directly affect SAF-related articles already approved, as well as governance provisions still awaiting a vote. Akaoui said articles already passed that are not impacted remain in force.
No timetable has been set for resuming the statute debate. On the 18th, a meeting will be held to review the club's first-quarter 2026 accounts.
