Diario Do Peixe reports that the Santos Deliberative Council will resume voting on a new club statute on Thursday night, after a turbulent opening session on Monday produced decisions on only five articles.
Monday’s meeting at Vila Belmiro unfolded amid protests by organised supporter groups. It also opened with a dispute involving Statute Commission president Celso Pires and some councillors, and was heavily delayed.
Of the items voted, the most significant concerned transformation into a SAF. The Statute Commission’s initial plan to allow a sale of up to 90% of shares was rejected, and councillors approved an amendment guaranteeing the club keeps 20% and permits a sale of up to 80%.
The most contentious issues, the waiting period for a member to gain voting rights in article 24 and the number of council terms for presidential candidates in article 32, were not discussed on Monday. They may not be debated on Thursday either, with further meetings expected to cover all 107 articles.
Articles are being voted on individually by the Council. Once a final text is approved, it will go to a members’ assembly for a single vote on the whole document, not article by article.
