Santos extend Bernardo Paias to 2027, plan loan for attacking midfielder | OneFootball

Santos have extended attacking midfielder Bernardo Paias’ contract until December 2027. His previous deal was due to expire on 30 November this year. Having played his final Copinha and aged out of the academy, he is not expected to be used by coach Vojvoda.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the club moved to avoid losing him for nothing and, together with his representatives, are now seeking a loan. The professional department has taken charge of his next steps.

Vojvoda said the academy is being closely monitored with decisions taken alongside Under-20 coach César Sampaio. He pointed to competition in Paias’ role, naming Miguel, Rollheiser and Neymar, and said prudence is needed when deciding if minutes come with the first team or elsewhere.

Paias impressed with the Under-17s in 2022 but suffered a grade two thigh injury late in 2023. He missed the 2024 Copinha after a setback, returned in February to play the Equality Cup in Qatar against Shanghai Shenhua and Zenit, then featured in Paulista and Brasileiro Under-20 matches, scoring and assisting.

He trained with the professionals under Fábio Carille and was registered for Série B, but further relapses followed. He spent long spells in rehabilitation, came off the bench against Ferroviária in the Copinha, then returned to physiotherapy. Overall he has battled muscular issues for about a year and a half, resumed competition in June, and, born in 2005 in Ribeirão Preto, recorded four assists in five Copinha games in 2026.
