Hundreds of Santos supporters staged a protest at the social entrance to Vila Belmiro on Monday evening, targeting club councillors and the board during a meeting on sweeping statute reforms.

According to Globo.com, councillors are set to vote on 105 articles of the statute, assessing 89 amendments proposed by a reform commission. Contentious items, including a proposal to allow the sale of 90% of the club’s SAF to a company, are expected to reach the agenda during the week.

Fans demanded clarity from councillors and called for each amendment to be voted on separately rather than in a single block. The protest continued into late evening, with the crowd dispersing at around 23:30.

Demonstrators also directed criticism at club president Marcelo Teixeira and his son, a councillor with influence behind the scenes. Teixeira was not in the Baixada Santista, having travelled to Rio de Janeiro to attend a CBF event at which Neymar’s World Cup call-up was decided.

Once the statute vote is completed, Deliberative Council president Fernando Akaoui will have 30 days to convene a General Assembly of members. If the revised statute is approved again, it will take effect.
