Santos have opted for secrecy, withholding their squad list and medical bulletin for Wednesday’s meeting with San Lorenzo at Vila Belmiro, scheduled for 19:00 in the fifth and penultimate round of the Sul-Americana. It is the first time in a long while the club have not released the names, having routinely done so since the start of the year under Vojvoda and Cuca, often even a day earlier.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the coaching staff want to keep opponents guessing and could spring a surprise with Barreal filling in at left-back and Miguelito and Gabigol starting in attack. The decision not to publish is specific to this fixture. When asked for updates on Escobar and Gustavinho, the media team said they could not provide information.

Both underwent tests after the weekend game against Coritiba. Escobar felt pain in the posterior of his left thigh, while Gustavinho reported a right adductor issue and was withdrawn at half-time. The expectation is that both will be held back.

Santos are chasing qualification and need to beat the Argentine side.

Confirmed absentees are Luan Peres due to concussion protocol, midfielders Gabriel Menino and João Schmidt as they recover from muscular injuries to the back of the right thigh, and Neymar Jr after a blow to the calf.
