Santos’ last top-flight title turns 10 today. On 8 May 2016 they beat Audax 1-0 at Vila Belmiro, Ricardo Oliveira scoring, to lift the Paulista.
According to Diario Do Peixe, it remains the club's most recent elite crown. Since then they have won Série B in 2024 and finished runners-up in the Copa Libertadores in 2020, the Campeonato Brasileiro in 2019 and the Campeonato Paulista in 2024.
Managed by Dorival Jr, Santos topped Group A with 32 points. Their record was nine wins, five draws and one defeat, scoring 28 and conceding 14.
In the quarter-finals they beat São Bento 2-0 in a single-leg tie.
The semi-final ended 2-2 with Palmeiras in normal time, Santos advancing 3-2 on penalties.
The first leg of the final was played in Osasco. Fernando Diniz’s side had the better of long spells and went ahead through Mayke, before Ronaldo Mendes levelled.
A tight return saw Santos win it with a Ricardo Oliveira goal. The club’s leading scorers in the competition were Ricardo Oliveira and Gabriel Barbosa with seven goals each.
