Santos right-back Hayner, on loan at Vila Nova until the end of the season, was targeted by a search and seizure warrant on Monday as part of Operation A Tropa, led by the Espírito Santo Civil Police, which is investigating a group suspected of interstate drugs and arms trafficking and money laundering.
The Goiás club said in a statement that the player denies any illicit activity and believes he was included because of a childhood friendship with one of the operation’s targets from his community in Espírito Santo.
Raids were carried out simultaneously in Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, Goiás and the Distrito Federal. In all, four temporary arrest warrants and 15 search orders were issued, with about 100 civil police involved, more than 38 vehicles and two helicopters.
In Rio de Janeiro, one of those under investigation is Vasco forward David Corrêa, known as DVD. Searches were conducted at his home in Barra da Tijuca and at the club’s training centre in Jacarepaguá. He went to the facility in his own car to accompany the procedures and did not speak to the media on departure.
The operation brought together teams from several states to execute court decisions and combat criminal groups operating across state lines. Its name, A Tropa, was taken from the way the suspects themselves identified the group.
Hayner joined Santos in 2024 on loan from Azuriz, was named the best full-back as Santos finished runners-up in the Paulistão that year, and has one goal in 38 appearances. He is under contract with Santos until the end of 2026.
