Santos name 24 for Chapecoense opener, Neymar among five absentees | OneFootball

Santos have named a 24-man group for Wednesday's trip to Chapecoense in the Brasileirão opener, kick-off 20:00 at Arena Condá. Only 23 can be registered on matchday, so one player will miss out.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the coaching staff have chosen to rest centre-back Adonis Frías, right-back Mayke and forward Gabriel Barbosa.

Barreal, back from a hip trauma, and Gabriel Bontempo, recovered from a muscle oedema, return to bolster the squad. Centre-back Alexis Duarte is again included, while forward Fernando Pradella receives his first call-up.

There are five absentees. Midfielders Gustavo Henrique, with a right adductor injury, and Willian Arão, recovering from kidney stone removal surgery, miss out. Attacking midfielders Thaciano, with a right hamstring oedema, and Neymar, who has started physical transition, plus forward Tiquinho Soares, with a left calf oedema, are also unavailable.

Goalkeepers (3): Diógenes, Brazão, João Pedro. Centre-backs (4): Zé Ivaldo, Alexis Duarte, João Basso, Luan Peres. Full-backs (4): Vinicius Lira, Igor Vinicius, JP Chermont, Escobar.

Midfielders (7): Schmidt, Zé Rafael, Rincón, Gabriel Menino, Miguelito, Rollheiser, Bontempo. Forwards (6): Robinho Jr, Caballero, Barreal, Lautaro Díaz, Mateus Xavier, Pradella.
