According to Globo.com, Santos and WTorre have agreed the final contract for the club's new arena, yet the builder has asked to suspend the signing with no target date, leaving the club to park the matter reluctantly.
They settled terms about a month ago after approving the draft, resolving issues that had lingered since 2024, when Marcelo Teixeira took over as president.
WTorre has asked for a pause until it addresses matters with BTG Pactual, which controls some of its operations, including the sale of Palmeiras' stadium naming rights to Nubank.
The company is also in talks with other financial firms over debts. Those negotiations could affect the Santos project, and WTorre is still seeking a naming rights partner.
Santos does not plan to push the builder, wary of signing and later having to deal with BTG or another company. The report said a decision could take months, further delaying hopes of a new ground.
For now, Vila Belmiro has seen upgrades and is set to remain home without demolition for some time. A separate plan to lift capacity is ready but awaits fire service approval. The new stadium project foresees about 30,000 seats, roughly 68,000 square metres of built area, 28 internal and 17 external shops, and parking for 310 cars, with potential to expand to 620.
