Miguelito was Santos' standout in defeat at Athletico in the third round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. According to Globo.com, he set up Thaciano's equaliser, but Julimar converted an early penalty and Viveros later hit the winner at the Arena da Baixada.
Goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão made good saves when required, he could not stop Julimar's penalty and was beaten by Viveros. Igor Vinícius began poorly with passing and positioning errors, improved after the break, and was booked for a rash challenge.
Zé Ivaldo endured a torrid night, conceding the early penalty and struggling in duels with Viveros. Luan Peres did better, yet the Arena da Baixada pitch made control difficult. Vini Lira lost out to Mendoza and offered little going forward.
João Schmidt struggled to track Athletico's runners, while Gabriel Menino was largely quiet. Gabriel Bontempo grew after half-time when arriving closer to the box. Barreal saw little of the ball on the left.
Thaciano finished well for the leveller but, like others, was hampered by the surface and long passes. Miguelito remained the chief creator, threading another fine ball that went unfinished.
Moisés impressed on debut, sparking an attack and being denied by Santos and Benavídez. Rony worked tirelessly but was less effective than against Noroeste, while Rollheiser and Lautaro Díaz had too little time to judge.
Head coach Juan Vojvoda packed the midfield, his plan undermined by the early spot-kick. His call to back Moisés was positive, though a later attempt to shore up the right with João Basso failed as the defender left Viveros unmarked for the winner.
