Santos target Rony to fill winger void after Guilherme sale | OneFootball

Santos are moving to sign Rony from Atlético-MG to fill the wide role vacated by Guilherme’s move to Houston Dynamo in the United States. According to Globo.com, talks over the 30-year-old centre on a fee of around R$ 11 million and all parties want a quick resolution.

Guilherme had asked to be sold at the end of 2025, a request the board accepted despite reservations, leaving them to source a replacement.

Rony, although not unanimously backed by fans, is viewed as a hard-working forward who offers attacking output and the physicality to help defensively.

Coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda has used Barreal wide and has sought solutions with Robinho Jr., Miguelito, Rollheiser and Lautaro Diaz across the front line.

Gustavo Caballero and Matheus Xavier are also in the group. Gabigol is the first-choice centre-forward. Thaciano has been tried up front but not as a winger, so Rony would be an immediate starter.

This season Rony has been named in all five Atlético-MG squads, starting three and scoring one goal. He was an unused substitute in the derby against Cruzeiro on Sunday.
