Santos have begun upgrading the Vila Belmiro pitch during a spell without home matches to keep the surface in top condition for the rest of the season. Work started on Tuesday and runs through June and July.
According to Diario Do Peixe, World Sports, the club's pitch partner, is delivering multi-stage recovery and reinforcement works.
First tasks focus on high-wear zones, notably the goalmouths and touchline areas used for warm-ups.
Next is a winter-focused process, introducing a new grass variety over the existing cover so the turf stays dense in lower temperatures. This helps protect quality and maintain consistent appearance and playability.
The final phase will level minor imperfections with a specific material, reducing irregularities, aiding growth and improving ball behaviour.
Heritage manager Alexandre Librandi said the stadium pause was vital to execute the plan and that progress will be tracked in the coming weeks, with maintenance staff testing the pitch every 15 days.
Santos are due back at Vila Belmiro on 25 July to face Chapecoense in the 20th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
