Santos are waiting for Miguelito to pursue his World Cup dream with Bolivia before opening talks over a new contract.

According to Globo.com, discussions to extend his deal, which runs until 24 April 2027, will be scheduled soon. There is confidence they could progress in the coming weeks, and his camp want a swift resolution once Bolivia’s fate is clear.

Miguelito has been Bolivia’s standout in qualifying, scoring seven goals to finish second only to Lionel Messi, who hit eight for Argentina.

In the first phase of the play-off, he converted a penalty in a 2-1 comeback win over Suriname, sending Bolivia through to face Iraq.

The Iraq tie is on Wednesday from midnight Brasília time, with the winner joining Group I alongside France, Norway and Senegal.

His international prominence has not yet been matched at club level. Regarded as a prospect at CT Rei Pelé, he struggled for a sustained run at Vila Belmiro and was loaned to América-MG last year.

The 21-year-old has 30 appearances for Santos without a goal, and in 2026 he has 12 outings and two assists. His last game came more than a month ago, starting before being withdrawn at half-time in a 2-1 win over Vasco in the Brasileirão.

He was left out by coach Cuca for the final Série A match before the international break, against Cruzeiro.
