São Paulo court suspends Corinthians General Assembly on statute reform after new appeal | OneFootball

The São Paulo Court of Justice has accepted an appeal and suspended Corinthians’ General Assembly on statute reform, which had been scheduled for Saturday, 19, at Parque São Jorge. The vote is paused until the appeal receives a final ruling.

According to Meu Timao, appellate judge Maurício Campos da Silva Velho, of the fourth Chamber of Private Law, applied a suspensive effect after life members Ademir de Carvalho Benedito, Guilherme Gonçalves Strenger and Alexandre Husni filed a fresh action on Thursday.

Romeu Tuma Júnior, president of the club’s Deliberative Council, informed members that the Assembly was suspended.

The trio cited Article 97, item M, arguing the Orientation Council’s remit to propose amendments was not followed. They also questioned putting 11 topics to a vote after the base text was rejected by the Deliberative Council on four May.

The decision said a temporary halt is appropriate and reversible, preserves the usefulness of judging the appeal, does not decide on the validity of the proposals and simply maintains the status quo given the relevance of the grounds and the risk of immediate electoral effects that would be hard to undo.

The group further claims first‑instance rulings erred on the proposals’ formulation and that the vote could affect November’s elections, as Fiel Torcedor, under the Football Associate label, might gain voting rights this year.

The councillors have pursued court actions against the reform and vice‑president Leonardo Pantaleão, who chaired the meeting that approved the topics. Last week they lost a bid as the Assembly was authorised to submit 11 items to members. There have been four suspensions in the period. The reform has been debated since last year, and the statute was last revised in 2008.
