São Paulo are engulfed in off-field turmoil as they head to face Flamengo at the Maracanã on Sunday, the 20th round of the Brasileirão.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the president of the club’s deliberative council, Olten Ayres, has been indicted by the Civil Police on suspicion of ideological falsehood after the ethics committee triggered an investigation.

Police concluded Ayres forged the signatures of José Eduardo Mesquita Pimenta and Ives Granda on a document that could have approved internal rule changes. He sought to alter the process for creating a Sociedade Anônima do Futebol and to separate football management from the social club.

The final report has been sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will decide whether to file charges, seek further clarification or archive the case. The offence carries a potential sentence of one to five years in prison plus a fine.

Separately, former São Paulo president Júlio Casares is accused of spending more than R$ 1 million on personal expenses using a corporate card, leading to his impeachment and possible expulsion.

The turmoil has reached the pitch, with Flamengo’s next opponents hit by a transfer ban for failing to pay Lazio for midfielder Marcos Antônio, a regular starter. The debt is about €1.05 million, and the club also has overdue salaries.

Dorival Júnior’s side are six without a win in the league and sit on 25 points, five above the first team in the Z-4. Kick-off is 18:30 Brasília time.
