According to Globo.com, the São Paulo public prosecutor’s office has requested the shelving of the investigation into ex-Corinthians president Augusto Melo’s use of the club credit card.
The criminal inquiry began in August last year after signs of irregular use of cards by fellow former presidents Andrés Sanchez and Duilio Monteiro Alves, who have become defendants for embezzlement.
Prosecutor Cássio Conserino, who leads the case, found that Melo did not use the club’s corporate card while in office, between January 2024 and May 2025.
However, prosecutors have not ruled out improper use of additional club cards outside the presidency, and inquiries on that front continue.
Other probes concerning Corinthians remain active, chiefly into cash withdrawals to pay expenses, amid suspicions of bogus invoices and shell companies used to divert funds.
Melo was impeached in August last year amid allegations of irregularities in the VaideBet sponsorship deal, and he remains a defendant on charges of criminal association, money laundering and theft.
