São Paulo suffer setback against Vasco in the Brasileirão

This Saturday (18), São Paulo were beaten 2-1 by Vasco at São Januário Stadium, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), in the 12th round of the Brazilian Championship. The Tricolor’s goal was scored by Luciano.

The first half began at a high intensity at São Januário. Just 9 minutes in, after a precise long ball from goalkeeper Rafael, Calleri controlled it, moved forward against the opposing defense, dribbled past his marker, and took the shot. The goalkeeper managed a partial save, but on the rebound, Luciano was well positioned to send the ball into the back of the net, opening the scoring for São Paulo. After the goal, the first half remained even, with few clear chances for either team. Even so, in the 29th minute, Artur got down the byline and crossed for Lucca. He arrived and hit it first time, but ended up striking Bobadilla. Right after that, the referee called a handball.

In the second half, in the 26th minute, the referee awarded a penalty to the opposition after a VAR review identified a handball by Calleri inside the box. Vasco converted the spot kick to score their first goal and level the match. Later on, in the 42nd minute, after a cross into the area, the opposition managed to get a shot away and scored the second goal, securing the win and bringing the match to an end.

Tricolor return to the pitch against Juventude on Tuesday (21), at MorumBIS, in São Paulo (SP), at 7:15 p.m., in the first leg of the fifth round of the Copa do Brasil. In the Brasileirão, the next match will be against Mirassol on Saturday (25), at 9 p.m., at MorumBIS, in São Paulo (SP).
