Sassuolo are exploring a move for Fiorentina midfielder Marco Brescianini after Ismael Koné suffered a serious World Cup injury with Canada, which is expected to rule him out until 2027 and leave new coach Alberto Aquilani short in midfield.
Fiorentinauno.com reports that Sassuolo have identified Brescianini as the preferred replacement, and the midfielder could be peripheral to Fabio Grosso’s plans at Fiorentina following the new coach’s summer appointment.
The former Milan player offers technical quality and physical presence in central areas, fitting the profile Aquilani would want as he prepares for his Serie A debut as a head coach.
A loan with an option to buy is understood to suit both clubs, allowing Sassuolo to add cover without a major outlay while giving Fiorentina flexibility over Brescianini’s future depending on his performances under Grosso.
Koné’s setback is a major blow for Sassuolo, who had expected the Canada international to be a key part of the squad.
