Alan looks at the pick of the EFL action this Saturday
Mansfield subdued the Jack Wilshere homecoming last weekend at Luton with a fine 0-2 victory at Kenilworth Road and in front of their biggest home crowd of the season at nearly 12,000, but while Jack was cheered on, he was booed off.
Nigel Clough's team took advantage of the lack of confidence Luton have at the moment, and while the added bonus of an away win will help their cause for a top six finish, they are a better team at home.
Three victories thus far have seen them score four, two and two at home and one of those was a thumping 4-1 success against Leyton Orient.
The price at 11/8 for a back-up win for Mansfield looks a safer bet than any involving Wigan, who did win last weekend but it was their first since September 13th.
You cannot split Stevenage and Bradford on points this term with 25 points a piece with Stevo's home form bordering on incredulous.
They've won all five, scored eight at home and conceded just one with an impressive xA of 0.97.
That's the key here; can Bradford break down a backline that have been so good, solid and organised. The Bantams were themselves top dogs on the defensive front in League Two last season and have earned three draws on the road so far with stalemates at Northampton, Peterborough and Rotherham.
Braford were held 2-2 last weekend in a thrilling Yorkshire derby against Barnsley, and the high octane game produced a superb xG for Bradford at 3.35, yet still were held. Stevenage created just 0.18xG away from home last weekend so we expect the two to meet somewhere in between.
Reading played really well recently in their home defeat to Cardiff, which was one of the better performances of the season and while they huffed and puffed a little last weekend against Northampton in a 1-0 victory, the Royals are more improved since the end of September.
Noel Hunt's team are still in a poor position in the table in 16th but at least their home form gives them a chance this weekend against one that is deathly out of sorts in Doncaster.
Rovers were hammered at Leyton Orient 0-4 and have lost five of their last six. Reading's second-half performance was one of few chances, but Northampton had so little quality up front they managed to nick a point. The counter-attacking game for Reading suits best I think, and as Donny tend to play more with the ball, it could be another close victory and I see a 1-0 potentially.
Notts County's home form has been strong this season but it's away from home this week they've impressed. I backed Barnet to beat them last Saturday, but the Magpies had either ideas and came away with a 0-1 win, and they subsequently earned a point at Swindon in midweek with a 2-2 draw.
"They are a good team, let's not take anything away from them, they have obvious threats with how they work the ball wide and get really good quality crosses in," said County boss Martin Paterson following Tuesday's point, and it could be a good one.
The win at Barnet was in the face of a complete onslaught of chances and County nicked the win on 94 minutes.
Back at home, this looks a fair price this Saturday for Notts County wo carry a potent goal threat with the likes of Alassana Jatta and in-form Tyrese Hall. The latter, a Spurs loanee is on a five-goal scoring run from six games.
Tranmere were absolutely awful when losing at home to Barnet, and with me opposing Rovers last Saturday, they triumphed 1-4 at Bristol Rovers.
How a team that couldn't even pass to another player one week improve to score four on the road is the eternal mystery in the lower reaches. Darrell Clarke the Gas manager was the one this week to issue a scathing assessment, although it seems they are taking it in turns.
Chesterfield haven't exactly been the model of consistency either with a sticky period at the end of September to the start of this month, but they've bounced back after conceding six at Colchester to take four points from their last two matches.
It was good to see Dilan Markanday score last Saturday for the Spirerites, a great little player at this level, and Paul Cook's side look a far more convincing option.
My record tipping Barnet this season is shocking. So here we go again!
I tipped them to beat Shrewsbury at home in September and they lost 1-3, subsequently they won four of five with a draw, and then last weekend lost to Notts County, a game I tipped them to win.
In truth, Martin Paterson couldn't have argued with Dean Brennan, whose assessment with cake was all quite amusing, and one County fan posted online Barnet were one of the best teams they've played so far. They were very much on the front foot last Saturday and they create a ton of chances.
Barnet press and hassle well and even on the road their 3-4-3 has worked well with the diamond, and often start well in first halves and are stacking up well with the xG numbers at 1.6 and xA of 1.06.
