Several FC Barcelona players were linked with moves away from the Catalan club in the last summer transfer window, including the midfielder Fermin Lopez, who has been quite impressive since his promotion to the first team.
The Spaniard has come in handy for both the coaches he has played for at the Blaugrana club, i.e., Xavi Hernandez and Hansi Flick, and there is no doubt that he is a highly valuable player in the Barcelona squad.
In fact, some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle United, explored the possibility of signing him last summer. However, none of their approaches were enough to convince Barcelona, who were keen to hold on to one of their most exciting homegrown talents.
Yet, Barça’s well-known financial struggles mean the club cannot ignore strong proposals. A recent report from Fichajes claims that an offer in the region of €60 million could force the Catalans into serious consideration.
That kind of bid may arrive not from Europe, but from Saudi Arabia, where the transfer window remains open until September 10, 2025, and several clubs are reportedly preparing moves for the La Masia graduate.
For now, Flick continues to count on Lopez as part of his midfield rotation, while the player himself remains focused on his development at the Camp Nou.
Still, Barça’s board is monitoring the situation closely. On one hand, Lopez represents the future of the team and is a symbol of La Masia’s success; on the other, such a lucrative fee would be difficult to dismiss given the club’s delicate financial circumstances.
Saudi clubs have already shown they are willing to invest heavily to lure young European talents, both for their quality on the pitch and their potential to attract global attention. Lopez fits that profile perfectly, which explains why his stock is rising in the Gulf state.
As things stand, his future is open-ended. While the Blaugrana fans hope to see him continue in Barcelona colors for many years, the possibility of a big-money Saudi offer arriving in the coming days could leave the Barcelona hierarchy with a tough decision to make.
