Saudi Pro League chief executive Omar Mugharbel has endorsed the potential arrival of Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah to the division.
Saudi sides are on alert amid uncertainty surrounding Salah’s future at Liverpool. The Egyptian winger was left out of the squad for the Champions League win at Inter Milan on Tuesday, following his controversial interview last weekend.
After being named as a substitute for the third consecutive Premier League game at Leeds, Salah suggested Liverpool had ‘thrown him under the bus’ amid the club’s poor recent results. He also said he had ‘no relationship’ with manager Arne Slot, and criticised his treatment this season.
It’s a stark contrast to last season, in which Salah inspired Liverpool’s title success. The 33-year-old led the Premier League for goals and assists, earning the PFA Player of the Year award.
His form has dropped this season and an exit in January is now possible. Saudi sides have held a long-standing interest in Salah, who is seen as a potential marquee addition. In 2023, Liverpool rejected a £150m offer for Salah from Al-Ittihad.
Mugharbel has now discussed the prospect of Salah arriving in Saudi Arabia and admitted the winger would be a ‘welcome’ recruit as the league continues to raise its profile.
“Mohamed Salah is welcome in the Saudi League, but it is the clubs that are responsible for negotiating with players,” he said, via Asharq Al-Awsat.
“For sure Salah is one of them.”
