Algerian star Youssef Belaïli (33 years old) has echoed the view of Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo, Al-Nassr’s talisman, regarding the superiority of the Saudi Pro League over France’s Ligue 1. According to Belaïli, the level of the Saudi Pro League has soared significantly thanks to the influx of international superstars.
Ronaldo made his statement during the Globe Soccer Awards ceremony in the Emirates last December: “Of course, the Saudi league is better than the French one. I’m not saying this just because I play there; it doesn’t matter what people think. But they should come to Saudi Arabia and play in 38 or 39-degree heat. The players have to go through that.”
Belaïli shared the same sentiment during a recent interview for the YouTube show LA SURFACE: “The level of the Saudi league was already high when I played for Al-Ahli Jeddah, and the competition was tough because of the climate.”
The forward, who recently suffered a cruciate ligament injury, added: “The Saudi league has improved even more after the arrival of many stars. Today, it’s even superior to France’s Ligue 1, because the level there isn’t outstanding — it’s rather average. The Saudi Pro League has clearly evolved with these reinforcements.”
