Saúl Níguez says he is aiming to return ahead of schedule for Flamengo after January surgery on his left heel.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the midfielder has been rehabbing with the club’s medical staff and has recently come off crutches. He expects around four more weeks in a protective boot, but after talks with doctors believes he could be back on the pitch sooner to help the team.
He is eager to support the squad and feels his recovery is progressing well under attentive care, with staff working day and night. He considers it important to remain with the group, whether available or not, and views being present as an obligation.
Heel pain first troubled him late in the 2025 campaign, when he chose conservative treatment to feature in decisive Libertadores and Brasileirão matches.
After the season, he and the medical department opted for surgery on the heel. The procedure was performed in Spain and his rehabilitation has begun.
Saúl joined Flamengo in July 2025 on a free after terminating his Atlético de Madrid contract. He has made 24 appearances with two assists, contributing to the Brasileirão and Libertadores titles.
Flamengo face Sampaio Corrêa on Saturday 7 in the sixth round of the Campeonato Carioca, kick-off 21:00 Brasília time at the Maracanã. The club are in a delicate position in the state competition.
