Giorgio Scalvini is said to have agreed a new long-term contract with Atalanta, with the deal in place and signing framed as a question of timing, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italy defender has two seasons left on his current deal, which runs until summer 2028.
The development follows summer interest from Newcastle United. The Premier League side paid an Italian-record fee to sign Sandro Tonali from Milan in 2023, a mark later surpassed by Tonali’s transfer from Newcastle to Tottenham.
Atalanta have long regarded Scalvini as untouchable, not for sale and central to recently appointed head coach Maurizio Sarri.
The 22-year-old has suffered significant injuries over the last two seasons, yet he has completed 90 minutes in each of Atalanta’s first three matches of 2026-27. He will be hoping for a call-up to Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad for the September-October international window.
