Atalanta announce that Gianluca Scamacca underwent surgery today to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, as the Italy international should be out for six months.
It was the result that everyone expected after his awkward fall during last night’s 4-1 pre-season friendly defeat to Parma at the Stadio Tardini.
He seemed to get his studs caught in the turf and turned the left knee as he fell.

A statement from Atalanta this evening confirmed that Scamacca went under the knife at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome, performed by Professor Mariani.
The player will now begin the rehabilitation process, but this type of injury generally requires at least six months out of action.
The 25-year-old had revitalised his career with La Dea, scoring 19 goals and providing eight assists in 44 competitive games.
He helped Atalanta to win the Europa League and reach the Coppa Italia Final, as well as qualify for the Champions League by finishing fourth in Serie A.
