Injured Atalanta striker Gianluca Scamacca reveals he won’t return to action before July: ‘Let’s say I’m on holiday, even if it’s not true…’

The Italian forward has been pretty unlucky this season, suffering a cruciate ligament injury during the pre-season and a second surgery in February after his first appearance in 2024-25.

The Atalanta striker revealed when he’ll return to action in an interview with Sportmediaset.

“Let’s say I am on vacation, even if it’s not true. I’m recovering, but we’re talking about July now,” he said.

Atalanta lost back-to-back games against Inter and Fiorentina and are now fighting for a Champions League spot.

“Too bad for the title. The defeat against Inter really had an impact,” admitted Scamacca.

“Nevertheless, it’s been a very important season so far. It’s normal to drop points sometimes.”

Fiorentina forward Kean has taken centre stage at an international level this term, and Scamacca is happy to see his compatriot’s development.

“It’s his moment now, and it’s right that he enjoys it,” he said.

“I’ve known him since the youth teams. For me, the important thing is getting back to feeling good again.”
