Sport Bild reports that Schalke have not yet given up hope on eventually appointing former striker Raúl as their head coach.
Before appointing Kees van Wonderen as head coach following the sacking of Karel Geraerts, Schalke had tried to hire Raúl back in May before making a second attempt in September. During these attempts, the former Real Madrid and Schalke striker was unable to be convinced to take over half way through the season, but the door is not closed.
Raúl’s contract as Real Madrid Castilla head coach expires in the summer and he is expected to leave his role in the capital as he wants a new challenge.
If Schalke decides to part ways with van Wonderen in the summer, then it is expected that they will make another attempt to hire Raúl. However, this depends on the future of Ben Manga, who could leave the club before the end of the season, especially if a sporting director comes in whose ideas are not aligned with his.
