Schalke started the game positively, and they thought they won a penalty-kick inside the first ten minutes. However, Calvin Brackelmann’s challenge on Moussa Sylla was adjudged to be outside the box by the referee Tobias Reichel after a VAR check.

It was the turn of Schalke fans to put on the show after this moment. In the 15th minute, they showcased a magnificent tifo in commemoration of the 150th anniversary for Gelsenkirchen officially recognized as a city.

On the pitch, the hosts lost their momentum with Paderborn starting to make things happen at the other end. Schalke survived a miscommunication between Loris Karius and Nikola Katić, but they were a goal behind a few minutes later.

Laurin Curda headed home Raphael Obermair’s cross after a patient buildup play by the visitors. However, Schalke leveled before the break with Kenan Karaman leading by example with a powerful strike.

The captain was also involved in Schalke’s best chance early in the second-half, but the 19-year-old goalkeeper Dennis Seimen denied Christopher Antwi-Adjei. Sylla was once again unlucky when he was slightly offside when he scored with a brilliant finish in the 63rd minute.

Schalke dominated the second-half, but the Stuttgart loanee Seimen made another super save to keep out substitute Bryan Lasme. However, Lasme finished the game as a hero by scoring the winner in the 86th minute with a delightful goal after a brilliant play by Sylla and Karaman.

There was a dramatic ending to the game, but Katic’s heroics saved Schalke in the final action of the game. The Traditionsverein are back in the top of the standings as Paderborn lose back-to-back games after winning eight matches straight.
