According to Kicker, Schalke’s move for Tim Skarke of Union Berlin has broken down and they are not happy about how the deal had gone.
Schalke had already agreed a deal with Starke for several weeks and there was reportedly also an agreement between officials at Union regarding the deal. However, Urs Fischer vetoed the deal as he needs Starke as a backup option. This completely rules out a move for Starke, which has upset Schalke. They must now look for another alternative.
This would have been Schalke’s third deal of the winter after the signings of Niklas Tauer (Mainz 05) and Jere Uronen (Stade Brestois) as they look to strengthen their squad for a relegation battle in the second half of the season.
Schalke are currently 18th in the Bundesliga and four points off Bochum who are above them. They are on their second coach of the season in Thomas Reis and have only won twice this whole season.
